Since the dawn of time, tribes and peoples all over the globe have studied and harnessed the four elements: fire, air, water and earth. Philosophers have used them to expose the complexity of all matter while astrologers have done the same to reveal the secrets of the Universe.
But that’s hardly their most interesting use.
Psychologists, myself included, have discovered some fascinating correlations between the four elements and human personality, particularly the feminine temperament.
Did you know that women can be classified into four archetypes, which correspond to the elements?
Yes, that’s right. Let me explain…
There are FOUR female archetypes: girl, lover, queen, and mother.
Like water, the Girl Archetype is changeable, emotional, and connected to the Flow of the Universe. A woman who is in her Girl Archetype (watery) energy is loving, caring, kind, and just a little bit naive. People feel drawn to her easy, carefree energy. Men want to care and provide for her, and women see her as a warm, supportive ally. Like Persephone, they often yield power and responsibility to others—whether their mothers, friends, or romantic partners.
How to spot her… On the positive, she smiles a lot; is easy to get along with; wears light colours like pink and blue; and is generally a very light, warm-hearted person. On the negative, she makes careless mistakes; changes her mind often; doesn’t really know what she wants; always relies on other people; cannot be trusted and relied upon; and is prone to depression and eating disorders.
Careers: such women are most often artists, florists, and in other careers that don’t demand too much of them.
Like fire, the Lover Archetype is passionate, fierce, driven, and unstoppable. Women with a dominant Lover Archetype do what they desire and get what they want. They’re easily aroused and very orgasmic. She’s sensual and unrestrained. These women are creative, often finding expression in art, poetry, dancing, and the cinema. True Aphrodites, they are true seductresses who hold vast power over men.
How to spot her… A Lover Archetype woman wears silk and lace clothing in dark colours, particularly red and black. She does her makeup often and necessarily plays up her eyes with dark eyeliner. She enjoys pleasurable activities such as spa days and (belly) dancing.
Careers: such women are most often dancers, writers, musicians, artists, makeup artists, poets, and even cooks.
Like air, the Queen Archetype is communicative and free. She is assertive, driven, goal-oriented, accomplished, and, naturally, very smart. Such women do great in positions of power, whether as business owners or as executives. They have clear boundaries, put themselves first, and follow a clear strategy of their own making. They’re true Athenas, supportive of reason, order, and discipline.
How to spot her… Queen Archetype women are remembered for their diligence and hard work. They often wear blue, gray, white, and brown clothes—and are known for wearing glasses. Their aura may appear cold and intimidating, which initially puts men off, but these women actually make the most faithful friends and lovers.
Careers: such women are most often business owners, professors, politicians, and accountants.
Like earth, the Mother Archetype is stable, caring, and fertile. They are nurturing, understanding, forgiving, and supportive. Such women like to help others, especially children and animals. They’re excellent at caring for their homes and tending to the sick. They value family and love children. They usually marry the richest men.
How to spot her… Mother Archetype (earthly) women wear long skirts and dresses, avoiding makeup and ostentatious displays. They avoid the spotlight, preferring to give it to someone else—like their entrepreneurial husband or Lover Archetype best friend. Their homes are neat, well-decorated, and well-stocked for any event.
Careers: such women are most often teachers, nurses, doctors, and homemakers.
