The important thing is that we love each other! But is that really enough?
How many times have we heard the phrase “The important thing is that we love each other”?
It sounds beautiful, romantic, even inspiring. Love is undoubtedly one of the most powerful emotions a person can experience — it connects us, inspires us, and gives our lives meaning.
But when it comes to relationships between two people, love alone is rarely enough.
Love doesn’t fix everything
Love can be deep, genuine, and passionate, yet if respect, trust, and shared direction are missing, it starts to fade.
Many couples break up not because they’ve stopped loving each other, but because they don’t know how to communicate, can’t manage their differences, or fail to find a balance between “I” and “we.”
A healthy relationship needs more than just feelings
Love is the foundation, but a lasting relationship also requires:
Communication – the ability to speak and listen without blame.
Respect – accepting the other person as they are, without trying to “fix” them.
Trust – the safety to be vulnerable without fear.
Shared values – love is beautiful, but different goals can destroy even the strongest bond.
Teamwork – a relationship should feel like a partnership, not a competition.
When love hurts
Sometimes we hold on to love, believing it will fix everything. We tell ourselves “the important thing is that we love each other,” even when we’re unhappy. But love shouldn’t hurt. It shouldn’t be an excuse for disrespect, pain, or imbalance.
To love someone also means knowing when to set boundaries, when to seek help, and when to choose yourself.
Love as a choice
True love isn’t just a feeling — it’s a daily choice. A choice to understand, to forgive, to keep trying, but also to grow — together and individually. It’s not perfect, but it’s alive.
I invite you to join me live in London, where we’ll talk about how to build a mature and lasting relationship — and then, “the important thing is that we love each other” will truly make sense… : HERE >
